Having enjoyed years of acclaim for her acting, Greta Gerwig (A NY Thing, DFF33; The Dish and the Spoon, DFF34) is now revealing her bold talent behind the lens with her directorial debut Lady Bird. Much as she fights it, teenager Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) is turning out exactly like her loving but deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse who works tirelessly to keep her family afloat after her husband (Tracy Letts) loses his job. As this dramatic comedy explores their bond, both the humor and the pathos of the turbulent relationship between mothers and daughters emerges.Set in Sacramento, California, in 2002, against a rapidly shifting American economic backdrop, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the connections that shape us, the beliefs that define us and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.
