Event Details

In 1969, US Senator Ted Kennedy was in a car accident that killed young campaign worker Mary Jo Kopechne. He left the scene and didn’t alert authorities for 10 hours.

This period drama examines what happened in the days that followed, revealing how one of the most powerful political dynasties in US history sought to preserve its legacy in the aftermath of a tragic scandal. It also shows how, as the family worked to contain the media damage, Kennedy was forced to confront his vulnerabilities; his damaged relationship with his father, Joe Kennedy Sr.; and his political future all at once. The infamous incident would become a defining moment in his career and place an indelible asterisk on his reputation.

Directed by John Curran (Tracks, The Painted Veil) from a screenplay by Taylor Allen and Andrew Logan, Chappaquiddick features a strong ensemble cast, including Jason Clarke, Kate Mara, Ed Helms, Jim Gaffigan and Bruce Dern.
